It has been two months since the last news update and we've had our ups and we've had our downs.
September saw Charlie's first Friday Folk Weekend Festival come together beautifully at The Venue in Stocksbridge and raised £332 for the chosen charity the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind. We had a fun-packed day full of music from our headlining/ supporting performers as well as our regular floor spot guests. Well done to everyone involved for giving their time for free, whose professionalism and dedication was key to the event being a success.
Sadly, less than a month later Charlie discovered that our launch of the 2nd Friday Folk Club would actually be our last ever night at The Venue. With two stunning sets from Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts the new night could not have had a better start, though news reached us from the week commencing 4th October, that although Friday Folk had been a success, there were problems remaining at The Venue and they could no longer support the club financially. For the time being Friday Folk will be taking a break for the remainder of 2010 to consider all options for the future.
However, it's not all bad news... Dearne Valley Folk, hosted by Charlie Barker is going from strength to strength since launching in September with two successful club nights so far. Make sure you come join us sometime in the new year, every 2nd Saturday of the month.
If you've stopped by to Charlie's official site recently you'll notice it's undergone a make over! If you haven't, then point your browser to www.charliebarkermusic.com and see what it's all about.
You'll also find some previews of the new album photography for 'Ghosts & Heroes' by Jake Oakley. You'll find that most of Charlie's publicity shots are done by Jake and they have known each other over 10 years since their school days. The wait for the album is nearly over and you'll be able to get your hands on Charlie's new release very soon!
