After a year-long hiatus, we are so pleased to announce that Charlie is returning to stage in September 2024.
This time last year Charlie announced that she was undergoing aHSCT (a stem cell transplant) following her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 2023, which saw her face a very invasive treatment and a long recovery time.
If you've followed her on social media you will know that the treatment has been very successful so far and she has been in rehearsals for her return to stage next month.
Charlie said: "Without doubt this has been one of the scariest things I've ever done, but it truly has been the best decision. It is the best available treatment for someone like me and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have delivered exceptional care both as an inpatient in isolation and back home in recovery. Huge thanks to all who have wished me well and given support during this time. I have missed performing and seeing the lovely audiences at concerts every week and I am so happy to be back on the road again this September."
Catch Charlie live at the dates below and check here for the future concert dates: -
14th Sept - Smawthorne Lane WMC, CASTLEFORD
28th Sept - Hove Edge Bowling & Social Club, BRIGHOUSE
12th Oct - Skipsea Beach Social Club, DRIFFIELD
9th Nov - Bradley & Colnebridge WMC, HUDDERSFIELD
Whilst in recovery, Charlie had the opportunity to do some session recording for a dear friend and award-winning recording artist, Sunjay.
His new 15-track album 'I'm Just Like You' is released on 11th November and features Charlie on backing vocals, along with some other brilliant musicians.
Having heard the record in its finished form, we highly recommend getting your hands on a copy. Keep an eye on sunjay.tv and @officialsunjay for upcoming pre-order details and the new single announcement.
In other news... Charlie and her daughter are to make an appearance in the next edition of a much-loved children's book series called 'Grandad Wheels'.
'Grandad Wheels' is written and created by author Brian Abrams, who started writing stories after a serious cycling accident left him paraplegic and a full-time wheelchair user. During recovery, Brian started writing stories for his very young Grandson, Charles, starring both of them. 'The Adventures of Grandad Wheels' soon became published books and there are now six books in total - with all proceeds from the sales going to two amazing spinal injuries charities: SIA and Back Up.
Illustrator, Dr Lynne Hickin has known Charlie all of her life - being her Aunt - and has always been a wonderful creative influence. Lynne has illustrated the whole book series and recently became a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychological Therapies & Mental Health, researching the positive benefits of art for wellbeing. She has also received high praise from one of the best illustrators of our generation, Quentin Blake.
Charlie said, "Being included in the latest book was a complete surprise. I'm delighted and so is my daughter! We love the books. They're great for young (and not so young) minds. We're very proud of Brian and Lynne's achievements raising so much money for charity and providing much-needed education and opportunities for discussion on disability."Charlie said, "Being included in the latest book was a complete surprise. You can spot Charlie with her long auburn hair, wearing her 'Electric Dreams' show costume in red and black leopard print. Charlie's daughter is the little girl with light red, curly hair standing in front of her with a mischievous grin.
